Abstract

Cyberbullying is associated with impacts on the mental health of victims and offenders. The present study aimed to analyze the relationship between the two forms of cyberbullying: victimization (measured through the Cybervictimization Questionnaire- CYVIC) and aggression (measured through the Cyber-aggression Questionnaire- CYBA), personality traits (measured through the the Ten Item Personality Inventory- TIPI) and psychopathological symptoms (measured through the Brief Symptom Inventory- BSI). The sample consisted of 553 adolescents and young adults, aged between 17 and 30 years. The results suggest that 59.7% (n=330) of the participants were targets of at least one cyberbullying behavior and 21.0% (n=116) practiced at least one behavior. Finally, there was a positive predictive effect of the dimensions psychoticism, interpersonal sensitivity, somatization and paranoid ideation on cybervictimization, as well as a negative predictive effect of the extraversion and kindness dimensions on cyberaggression. The need to work on the prevention of these behaviors is highlighted, considering the impacts they have on mental health, and research, prevention and intervention should focus on studying and working with all those involved in these behaviors.
