Enhancing the role of community nursing in the health system

Abstract

This editorial aims to praise, recognize and/or exalt the role that nursing human talent plays outside the institutions that provide health services in the dimensions of being, knowing and doing in a holistic manner, providing care from the preventive to palliative through health maintenance, which suggests individual, collective and community actions or interventions. For this reason, it is necessary for Nursing organizations to protect and make known, from the norm, the political and the social, the value of the practice of nursing with the creation of the National Nursing Policy and its Strategic Plan 2020-2030, whose purpose is to improve practice and conditions in different work environments.

Within the General Social Security Health System, nursing human talent represents a great responsibility given that from its conceptual genesis, the specificity of disease promotion and prevention adheres to the backbone of what nursing does: care, through different strategies such as Primary Health Care (PHC), with its focus on family and community health, highlighting two of its three important components: intersectoral/transectoral action for health and community social participation and citizen; exercising governance and making available its comprehensive and integrative training, its principles, values and competencies at the service of vulnerable populations in need of great human talent in health that makes social and health-illness situations visible for the reorientation of services from community.
