“AIEPI Comunitario” una estrategia imprescindible en tiempos de sindemia

Abstract

Infant mortality is one of the events of interest in public health worldwide. In the case of the department of Antioquia, the number of deaths in children under five years of age has decreased by almost half from the year 2000 to the year 2019. However, after the arrival of the pandemic, a slight increase in mortality from malnutrition (DNT), acute respiratory infections (ARI), and acute diarrheal disease (ADD), going from an infant mortality rate of 0.9 to 2.2 deaths per 1000 live births for the first of the events described; in the case of ARI, the change was from 4.8 to 5.2 deaths per 1000 live births, and for EDA the variation was from 1.1 to 1.9 per 1000 live births(1). This could be associated with a syndemic behavior (2) associated with the widespread effects of COVID-19, so joint efforts are required to deal with this situation.

As part of the contingency response plan due to the increase in cases of Acute Respiratory Infections in the department of Antioquia and in order to strengthen the skills of human talent in health, community leaders, people related to children, educators, and parents of the family, the forum is developed: Comprehensive Care for Prevalent Childhood Diseases (IMCI) in its community component: as an essential in times of syndemic in the auditorium of the National Faculty of Public Health, by the Government of Antioquia in articulation with Higher Education Institutions (IES): Remington University Corporation, University of Antioquia and CES University.

Methodology

The general theme for the development of the event was community IMCI with a focus on health professionals and nursing staff (auxiliaries and professionals) in training. The selection process of papers and panelists was in charge of the Early Childhood Nursing Care areas of each of the participating universities. The academic committee of the event in charge of evaluating each of the proposals of the speakers was the staff of Epidemiology of the Government of Antioquia. Each speaker developed a 20-minute presentation, and two question sessions were held with the participants of the two modalities.

The speakers were selected as thematic experts by the participating universities, among the experts, and the government team, and according to the analysis of the cases of infant mortality, key issues were identified in which the theme was developed.
