Apego a los padres y necesidades psicológicas básicas en los adolescentes: papel moderador de la sintomatología depresiva

Resumen

La literatura señala la calidad del apego a las figuras parentales como un factor de protección contra los síntomas depresivos, que puede contribuir a la satisfacción de las necesidades psicológicas básicas. Este estudio pretende comprobar el papel del apego a los padres en las necesidades psicológicas básicas de los adolescentes, así como comprobar el efecto moderador de la sintomatología depresiva sobre la asociación anterior. La muestra es formada por 1.326 participantes del norte de Portugal, 730 (55,1%) mujeres y 596 (44,9%) varones de edades comprendidas entre los 12 y los 18 años (M = 15,23; DP = 1,70). La muestra se recogió utilizando cuestionarios de autoinforme como el Cuestionario de Apego Materno y Paterno (QVPM), el Balanced Measure of Psychological Needs (BMPN), y la Depression Scale – CES-D. Los resultados sugieren que las necesidades psicológicas básicas se predicen positivamente por la calidad del apego emocional a los padres y negativamente por la inhibición de la exploración y la individualidad hacia el padre y la madre. Se encontró el efecto moderador de la sintomatología depresiva en la asociación entre el apego a los padres y la necesidad psicológica básica de competencia para ambas figuras parentales. Los resultados se discutieron a la luz de la teoría del apego y la autodeterminación, teniendo en cuenta las vicisitudes del desarrollo de la adolescencia y el papel de las figuras parentales en el desarrollo de los jóvenes.
