Halitosis

Resumo

La halitosis oral es un término que generalmente se utiliza para describir un olor desagradable que se emite por la boca, independiente de que las sustancias causantes del mal olor sean de origen oral o extraoral. En los últimos años se han establecido claramente las fuentes y causas de la halitosis y aunque es uno de los problemas mas comunes por lo menos en la mayoría de los individuos al levantarse en la mañana sigue siendo un fenómeno de difícil diagnostico y tratamiento por parte del odontólogo. El presente artículo pretende dar una síntesis de los conocimientos sobre esta patología, su relación con la enfermedad periodontal y mostrar los métodos diagnósticos accesibles y además las posibilidades de tratamiento para los pacientes. ABSTRACT Oral halitosis is a term that is generally used to describe an unpleasant breath that is emitted by the mouth, independent that the causing substances of the bad scent are of oral origin or extraoral. When the source of the bad breath is oral which represents of 80-90% it denominated oral halitosis. In the last years they have settled down the sources and causes of the halitosis clearly and although it is one of the problems but common at least in most of the individuals when getting up in the morning continues being a phenomenon of difficult of diagnose and treatment on the part of the general dentist. The present article seeks to give a synthesis of the knowledge on this pathology, its relationship with the periodontal illness and to show the accessible diagnostic methods and also the treatment possibilities for the patients.
