ANALlSIS COMPARATIVO DE LA DEGLUCION NORMAL y ATIPICA UTILIZANDO LA TECNICA PAVNE V LA TECNICA CONVENCIONAL

Abstract

Mediante esta investigación se pretendió demostrar la utilidad de la técnica payne para diagnosticar degluciones atípicas, comparándolas con el méto¬do convencional de Moyers. Se analizó la relación existente entre ambas técni¬cas, con el fin de fomentar el uso de la técnica payne como método confiable y práctico en la evaluación de la deglución, en el examen odontológico. El estudio de corte transversal de carácter inferen¬cialo concluyente incluyó 74 niños, entre 6 y 10 años, de ambos sexos. Cada paciente tuvo una evaluación que incluyó: Posición de la lengua mediante la técnica payne Análisis de deglución con la técnica convencio¬nal. En la población estudiada se tuvieron en cuenta también otros aspectos importantes, tales como: succión digital, respiración oral, relación molar, overbite, overjet y su relación con la deglución. Los resultados mostraron que la proporción de pacientes con deglución normal mediante la técnica payne es igual a la proporción de pacientes a los cuales se les aplicó la técnica convencional. Abstract The purpose of this study was to compare the efective-ness of the payne technique in the diagnosis of atypical swallowing patterns when compared to the conventional Moyers method. The design of the study consisted of a cross-sectional evaluation of 74 children with an age range between 6¬10 and including both sexes. Each patient was evalua¬ted in order to determine tongue position by means of the Payne technique and the conventional method. Other important aspects and their relationship to the swallowing pattern such as thumb sucking, oral brea¬thing, molar relationship, overbite, ove~et were studied. The results obtained indicate that the percentage of patients with a normal swallowing pattern established with the payne technique is the same to the proportion determined with the conventional method.
