ESTUDIO DE LAS CONCENTRACIONES SISTEMICAS DE MERCURIO EN LOS EGRESADOS DEL INSTITUTO DE CIENCIAS DE LA SALUD C.E.S. ENTRE LOS AÑOS 1982-1989

Abstract

La presente investigación pretende establecer los niveles de mercurio sistémico en los egresados de odontología del Instituto de Ciencias de la Salud desde 1982 hasta 1989, tomando muestras de 3 centímetros de cabello que fueron llevados al laboratorio del Centro de Investigaciones Ambientales de la Facultad de Ingeniería de la Universidad de Antioquia. Se tomaron 10 egresados de cada promoción, escogiendo aleatoriamente cinco hombres y cinco mujeres. El promedio obtenido del nivel de mercurio fue 1.57 p.p.m, siendo el límite permisible 7 p.p.m. Se pudo demostrar que aunque no es significativo el aumento del nivel de mercurio según los años de egresados, sí hay una tendencia al aumento en los egresados más recientes. Abstract The purpose of this study was to evaluate systemic mercury levels in dentists which graduated from the Dental Schoool ofThe Health Sciences Institute (CES) between 1982 and 1989. Eighty alumni, which included ten graduates from each class (5 males and 5 females) were randomnly selected. Three-cm hair samples were taken and analyzed at the Enviornmental Research Center of the Engineering School at the University of Antioquia in Medellín. The mea n average mercury level found was 1.57 ppm. (maximum permitted level is 7 ppm). Although no significant differences in the systemic levels could be established, a trend was found in which levels tended to increase slightly in the more recent graduates.
