ANALlSIS DE CRECIMIENTO Y DESARROLLO GENERAL EN TRES POBLACIONES DIFERENTES (VALLE DE ABURRA, BELMIRA Y DAMASCO)

Abstract

La presente investigación pretende continuar con un estudio longitudinal a 10 años, para así analizar y evaluar las características del crecimiento y el desarrollo general de tres poblaciones diferentes: Valle de Aburrá, Damasco y Belmira. Los individuos escogidos para el estudio presentaban rasgos étnicos y socio-económicos diferentes, y comprendían hombres y mujeres entre los 8 y 17 años de edad. Las variables a estudiar fueron: la talla, el peso, el estadio de osificación y la edad de la menarca. Para las variables peso, talla y estadio de osificación se ve que aumentan con el incremento de la edad. Los mayores incrementos en la talla se dieron entre los estadios de osificación FG y G en los hombres y las mujeres de las tres poblaciones estudiadas. Las mujeres de Belmira presentan una edad promedio de aparición de la menarca menor que en el Valle de Aburrá y Damasco, donde influyen factores genéticos y ambientales. Finalmente se concluye que se presenta un dimorfismo sexual en el crecimiento, donde los hombres presentan las mayores diferencias. Abstract This investigation in part of a longitudinal 10 year study that wi I1 assess and eval u ate the general growth and development characteristics of three different Colombian populations: Aburra Valley (urban), Damasco and Belmira (rural). The sample selected for the study included individuals with different ethnic and socio-economic background, and was composed of men and women between the ages of 8 - 17 years of age. The variables which were studied included: height, weight, ossification stage and age of menarche. An increment with age was found for the weight, height and ossification stage variables. The greatest incrementin height was seen between the FG and G ossification stages in men and women of the three populations. The women in Belmira presented an earlier age of menarche than in the Aburra Valley and Damasco where there is an influence of genetic and environmental factors. A conclusion is reached that there is a growth sexual dimorphism where men present the greatest differences. The lower height measurements in Belmira must be considered, where genetic and environmental factors may be directly related with the variations in weight, height and skeletal maturation.
