DETECCION DE CANDIDA ALBICANS EN PACIENTES PORTADORES DE PROTESIS TOTAL SUPERIOR CON DIAGNOSTICO CLINICO DE ESTOMATITIS POR PROTESIS DENTAL

Abstract

Este estudio pretende determinar la prevalencia de e. albicans en pacientes con estomatitis por prótesis dental (EPD). La muestra fue de 76 pacientes: 61 (80.3%) tenían diagnóstico clínico de EPD y 15 (19.7%) presentaban mucosas normales. En 35 pacientes (5.1 %) se detectó una regular o mala higiene de la prótesis; 49 (80.3%) habían utilizado sus prótesis por más de 5 años y 41 (67.2%) las usaban 24 horas al día sin darles ningún tratamiento con sustancias antisépticas.- Con azul de lactofenol se comprobó la presencia del hongo en 38 pacientes (62.3%) en la muestra tomada de la mucosa y en 41 pacientes (67,2%) en la muestra tomada de la prótesis. La prevalencia de e. albicans es mayor en pacientes con EPD que en pa¬cientes sanos; los factores etiológicos más significativos son la mala higiene de la prótesis, la frecuencia de utilización, el material con que están confeccionadas y su mayor tiempo de uso (años). Abstract The purpose of this study was to establish the prevalence of e. albicans in patients with denture stomati¬tis.- The sample consisted of 76 patients; 61 (80.3%) had a c1inica1 diagnosis of denture stomatitis while 15 (19.7%) had normal mucosas. Presence of e. albicans was detected by means of blue lactophenol stain.- Results were positive in the mucosas of 38 patients (62.3%) and in 41 dentures (67.2%). The pres¬ence of e. albicans was greater in patients with denture stomatitis than in normal ones. The most signifi¬cant ethiological factors associated with the infection inc1ude poor oral and denture hygiene, denture material and prolonged use of the dentures.
