LA REJILLA COMO TRATAMIENTO DE MORDIDAS ABIERTAS ASOCIADAS CON HABITO DE DEDO Y/O LENGUA EN NIÑOS EN DENTICION MIXTA

Resumen

Con base en la controversia existente acerca del efecto y el tiempo de tratamiento con la rejilla en pacientes con mordida abierta anterior causada por hábito de dedo y/o lengua, se estudiaron 20 pacientes a los cuales se les realizó un examen estomatológico completo, incluyendo modelos de estudio y radiografía cefálica lateral antes y después del tratamiento. A todos se les colocó una rejilla durante 6 meses y al cabo de este tiempo se encontró una diferencia altamente significativa entre la sobremordida vertical antes (-2.67 mm) y después del tratamiento (1.68 mm), lo que indica que la rejilla es efectiva para corregir la maloclusión. En tejidos blandos no se encontraron diferencias estadísticamente significativas después del tratamiento, pero sí un aumento en la distancia de la línea estética al labio superior, al labio inferior y al punto submental. Hubo un incremento en la altura facial anterior y posterior y en la longitud del maxilar. Además un aumento vertical y horizontal del tercio inferior. Abstract Twenty patients suffering from anterior open bite caused by finger and/or tongue habit were studied following existing controversy about the effect and time of a cribo A complete oral exam was performed as well as study models and lateral caphalic x-rays, all in the form of pre and post treatment tests. A crib was placed to all subjects during six months, time after which a highly significant difference was found in the vertical overbite (-2.67 mms before treatment and 1.68 post treatment). This finding indicates that the crib is an effective treatment in the correction of malocc1usion. Additionally, conceming soft tissue, the following findings appeared post treatment: an increase in the distance from the aesthetic line to the upper lip, lower lip and submental point. There was also an increase in the anterior and posterior face height and in the lenght of maxilla. Finally, an increase of the vertical and horizontallower third was found.
