Abstract

Youth has been one of the population segments that has occupied the interest of public health, since it is recognized as an age group that is "at risk" in the face of certain public health problems or as a "risk-generating" population. While the importance of research and policies aimed at promoting, maintaining and improving the health of young people has been widely recognized, the "youth" category has in most cases been restricted to a chronological taxonomy, leaving aside historical, political, social, cultural and economic dimensions that are fundamental within the generational structure of society and which play a central role in the interpretation of realities concerning the health of young people.
