ANALISIS DEL COMPORTAMIENTO DE NIÑOS DE DIFICIL MANEJO DESPUES DE LA ADMINISTRACION DE MIDAZOLAM O PLACEBO ANTES DEL TRATAMIENTO ODONTOLOGICO

Resumen

Análisis del comportamiento de  niños de difícil manejo después de la administración de midazolam  o  placebo antes del tratamiento odontológico. CES Odont  1995; 8:116-119.

El objetivo principal de esta investigación es evaluar la efectividad clínica del midazolam intrasanal, en  el  tratamiento odontológico de niños de 3 a 5 años de edad, con comportamiento negativo o definitivamente negativo según la escala de  Frankl. Se seleccionaron 20 pacientes de 3 a 5 años que consultaban el Centro de Salud CES-Sabaneta. El diseño del estudio fué doble ciego. Al grupo experimental se le administró midazolam en gotas nasales a una dosis de 0,3 mg/kg quince minutos antes del procedimiento odontológico y al grupo control se le administró solución salina de la misma manera. Cada procedimiento fué filmado y evaluado posteriormente por 3  odontopediatras, quienes calificaron el comportamiento al inicio, intermedio y final del procedimiento. Al hacer una comparación entre los grupos experimentales y control no se encontraron diferencias significativas en cuanto al comportamiento.

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the clinical effectiveness of midazolam (0.3 mg/kg) in improving children’s behavior in the dental setting after intranasal administration when compared with a placebo. Twenty children between 3 and 5 years of age, who required restorative treatment and the application of anesthesia, were selected and randomly divided into an experimental and a control group. Patients in the experimental group were administered midazolam (nasal drops) 15 minutes prior to treatment, while patients in the control group were given a saline solution in the same form. Ah patients were treated by the same operator and procedures were filmed. Three independent pediatric dentists evaluated behavior based on the Frankl sacle at the begining, middle and final stages of the appointments; No statistical differences in behavior were observed between the two groups.
